Lander University’s Day of Giving, Feb. 11 – 12, Coincides with 150th Birthday

The 2022 Founder’s Day of Giving, marking the 150th birthday of Lander University, begins at 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 11.

For 1,872 minutes, a number that coincides with Lander’s 1872 founding, alumni, friends and supporters are encouraged to galvanize their support by donating to initiatives that will benefit the University and its students.

The Day of Giving will end at 4:12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12.

“Lander’s success has been marked throughout its history by the generosity of many people,” said Mike Worley, executive director of The Lander Foundation.

“During our Founder’s Day of Giving, we will be raising money for the Excellence Fund and scholarships. Donors also may choose to support any area of their specific interests,” he said. “This year’s Day of Giving is being held as we celebrate the founding of the University, and we hope to grow the number of gifts, particularly those from alumni.”

Alumni support is among the criteria used in the ranking of colleges and universities, and also is critical to a University’s continued growth and progress. “Donations from alumni enhance our academic mission, and we are grateful for these contributions, which continue our work to move the University forward,” Worley said.

Gifts to the Excellence Fund enable Lander to address its most critical priorities so that University leaders have the resources to face unprecedented challenges and take advantage of new opportunities, he said.

“Scholarships help us ensure that students have opportunities for a lifetime because of their access to an affordable college education,” Worley said. “Over the past three years, Lander has increased fundraising three-fold. As we celebrate the University’s 150th year, we hope to continue on that trajectory. “

Throughout Lander’s history, University leaders have had a remarkable ability to successfully adapt to major changes. “Today, as in the past, the support of donors has provided a strong foundation for our present and future,” he said.
